Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Architectural History 1A: Introduction to World Architecture (ARHI08009) AND Architectural History 1B: Revivalism to Modernism (ARHI08004)

Prohibited Combinations Other requirements Students should normally have passed at least 60 credits of Architectural History or History of Art/History courses at Level 8. If the pre-requisites cannot be met, entry to this course can be negotiated in consultation with either the Course Organiser or Programme Director (Architectural History).

This Course may require additional costs to be met by the Student, if a dissertation topic is selected which involves travel to sites or archives.

Materials: Students will be expected to fund the purchase of general stationary materials such as paper and pens. Course Organisers will support you in meeting intended learning outcomes while keeping material costs to a minimum, encouraging sustainable, responsible sourcing through Free Use Hub, but students will be expected to fund optional material costs as necessary for their own project work. 

Printing:
Students are expected to fund occasional printing of A4/A3 sheets. This will be optional as all submissions are online.

Equipment and software: Most equipment and software required will be provided by the School. A personal laptop with a word processing application is helpful.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate a depth of knowledge on a particular topic in architectural history.
  2. Demonstrate a familiarity with the methodology and literature of architectural history and criticism.
  3. Demonstrate awareness of the wider theoretical and cultural context of architecture.
  4. Demonstrate ability to synthesise arguments from a wide range of source materials in a cogent and coherent manner.
  5. Demonstrate ability to communicate an idea fluently and accurately.
